A standard freight car seen on many roads from the 1920s through the 1970s, thousands of AAR 2-bay hopper and its clones carried coal, ore, aggregate and more to keep America’s industry running. Sometimes found as a single car or two in a mixed freight, other times in solid trains, cars of this style would be a daily sight on rails across the US. Pooling of cars between roads was also common, so feel free to mix and match on your own coal trains! Lionel’s new cars feature realistic molded in details for added durability and lower costs making it easy to build a long coal train of your own. Plastic bodies with added metal weights ensure good tracking even when empty. With seven road numbers available per road, building a long train has never been easier.
