Historical Background
The William Barstow Strong began its life as Coach Bar Lounge Car #1397 before being rebuilt as a Track Inspection Car. In 1975, it was renamed William Barstow Strong in honor of the former president of the Santa Fe. After the 1995 merger with Burlington Northern, the car received several exterior and interior updates and was renumbered from #89 to #32. Today, the William Barstow Strong remains in service with BNSF Railway, continuing its legacy by transporting company executives across the railroad’s vast system.
